What does string dance mean?
Refers to the instrumental music that dancers play with the black boy when dancing string. It is mainly popular among Yi, Nu and Lisu nationalities in Yunnan Province. "Black boy" is a generic term. Yi's ukulele and sanxian, Nu's pipa, Lisu's pipa and sanxian can sometimes be called "black boy". These instruments are not only dance tools, but also instruments in related dances, so their dances can be collectively called "string dance" and their pleasures can be collectively called "string dance music". Four-string dance and three-string dance of Yi nationality, Pipa dance of Nu nationality and Pipa dance of Lisu nationality are the representative varieties of dance. Yi people's four-string dance music is widely spread in Yunnan, with different styles from place to place. The four-stringed instrument used is also called "Yueqin", and its shape is similar to that of the Han musical instrument Yueqin. For example, the four-string dance music commonly used by the Yi people in Chuxiong, such as "Xie Li Xieluo", "Cutting Sand" and "Three Steps String", is often played in a monotonous way with a lively rhythm. A piece of music can be changed repeatedly with the dance movements. Nujiang pipa dance music is popular in Gongshan, Bijiang and Fugong counties along the Nujiang River. The instrument used is pipa, which is called "Dabia" in angry language and has four strings. Because the dance movements of Nu Pipa mostly imitate productive labor posture and animal images, its dance music is often divided into three categories according to the content of dance performance: dance tune, production tune and imitation tune. Commonly used songs include friendship tune, thrush tune, dance music and so on. Lisu Pipa Dance and Sanxian Dance are popular in Yunnan Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture and Lisu inhabited areas in Baoshan and Dehong. The Lisu pipa in Nujiang Prefecture is called "its cloth forehead" in Lisu language, with four strings. The classification of dance music is similar to that of Nupipa, and the commonly used tracks are dance music, firewood chopping, bird singing and crow drinking. The Lisu people in Baoshan area are Sanxian, and the language of Lisu people is also called "Seven Steps". Its dance music is short in structure, neat in beat and lively in mood.
