In February this year, the research published by Yuan team of Hong Kong University showed that hamster testicles could be damaged and atrophied in animal experiments, suggesting that human infected people may have hypogonadism and fertility decline. Professor Yuan pointed out that vaccines can prevent the above complications.
On February 7th, the well-known medical journal NatureMedicine published an observational study, saying that within one year after COVID-19 was cured, patients' risk of cardiovascular diseases increased, including heart disease and stroke, and even mild cases were exposed to related risks.
Wave after wave of "sequela" research has impacted people and caused fear. But what few people know is that most of these studies are observational studies or animal experiments, which are limited and cannot represent the whole population.
Next, let's take a look at some patients who have experienced COVID-19, what they have experienced and how their lives have changed.
1. How are their lives after being infected with COVID-19 virus?
@ Ms. Zhang, 37 years old
I was diagnosed as COVID-19 on 20021,and was treated in the hospital 14 days later, I recovered and was discharged. When I first left the hospital, I felt that my body had undergone tremendous changes, and I was always overwhelmed. I can't even go shopping and do housework.
When the situation is serious, even sitting on the sofa watching TV feels tired and can only lie down. I have no choice but to ask the doctor for help. The doctor said that my recovery was slower than others, and suggested making some changes, such as doing more exercise. I listened to his words and began to exercise slowly, only then did I gradually improve my physical fitness, and my body and mood improved a lot.
@ Mr. Hu, 42 years old
I heard that Omicron was contagious before, and I didn't know. It was not until I was diagnosed that I found out that I had just talked to him in the elevator.
The first night, I began to have a sore throat. The next day, the sore throat became more and more obvious, with a high fever of 38℃, chills, fatigue, headache, muscle aches, cough and other uncomfortable symptoms. On the third day after taking the medicine, she improved slightly, and her temperature dropped to 37.2℃, but other symptoms persisted and she was admitted to Fangcang Hospital.
On the first day of admission, the sore throat was relieved, but the cough and expectoration were still obvious. From the second day of admission, all symptoms gradually eased or even disappeared, and basically recovered on the eighth day. It takes about ten days from infection to recovery, and now there is no other discomfort except occasional cough.
@ Mr. Liu, 32 years old
I work in the United States, and I have to be isolated at home and live in a room by myself after infection. Although I was well protected, I don't know why my wife was infected by me within two days.
Two days before the infection, I just felt sleepy. I slept in the dark at home, with a terrible sore throat, general weakness and unbearable hunger. I just want to drink, eat, sleep, drink, eat and sleep every day. The worst three days passed, and on the fourth day, symptoms began to ease and sleep improved a lot. On the sixth day, my energy was completely restored and I could work at home. My physical condition is no different from that before infection.
I always thought that Omicron was terrible, but according to my own experience and the cases around me, it seems that most of them are false alarms. Maybe we are lucky.
Second, is there a high probability of sequelae after COVID-19's infection?
Judging from the situation of most infected people, the first few days of infection will be uncomfortable. After rest or treatment, the patient's symptoms will gradually disappear and eventually recover. But many people worry that there will be sequelae after recovery.
The so-called "sequela of COVID-19" refers to the persistent health problems of the recovered persons 4 weeks or 30 days or even longer after the initial symptoms appear. At present, there are at least 55 kinds of sequelae in COVID-19. The probability of mild patients is low, and the probability of severe patients is high. The most common are fatigue, headache, attention disorder, hair loss and dyspnea. Other diseases include lung diseases, cardiovascular diseases and neurological and mental diseases.
A large-scale study in Britain found that 9.4% of patients will have symptoms after 4-8 weeks of infection; After 6 weeks of infection with12-/kloc-0, 5% patients will have symptoms. The research emphasizes that the symptoms of people recovering in COVID-19 within a few weeks or months are not necessarily related to COVID-19, which is ignored by many people.
Lu Hongzhou, president of Shenzhen Third Hospital and leader of Shenzhen public health epidemic prevention and control expert group, pointed out that the sequelae of COVID-19 were not as serious as expected, and we did not find any serious sequelae during the follow-up of recovered patients.
"I think, don't exaggerate the sequelae of COVID-19, most people can fully recover."
Third, do these three things well to reduce sequelae.
For people who have never been infected with COVID-19, in order to prevent accidents and reduce sequelae, the following three measures should be taken in advance.
1, vaccination
As long as you don't infect COVID-19, there will be no sequelae. At present, vaccination is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of infection. Even if you are unfortunately infected after vaccination, the symptoms are lighter than those who are not vaccinated, and the chances of serious illness and sequelae are lower.
Step 2 Enhance resistance
Diet should be diversified, fruits and vegetables and protein should not be less, and drink plenty of water. Insist on moderate-intensity exercise 3~5 times a week, such as running, aerobics, badminton, etc. It not only exercises the body, but also improves the mood. Get enough sleep and don't stay up late. Disorder of biological clock can lead to decreased immunity.
3, adhere to the treatment of basic diseases.
Statistics show that COVID-19 patients with basic diseases have a higher probability of developing into severe diseases, and their COVID-19 sequelae last longer. Therefore, if you have basic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic kidney disease, you should actively treat them, stabilize your condition, and minimize the related risks.
According to the current research, the sequelae of most COVID-19 patients will gradually disappear with the passage of time. Treat sequelae rationally, don't worry too much, and don't take it lightly. At all times, we should do a good job in protection, actively enhance resistance and minimize risks.
