Fengshan Mazu Gun Festival is one of the important folk activities in Fengshan Temple Tourist Area, a key cultural relic protection unit of Shanwei Municipal People's Government. Located in the southeast of Shanwei, on the west bank of clear lake, it is distributed in Shanwei, Haifeng and Lufeng, and radiates to Guangdong, western Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Fengshan Mazu Fireworks Festival originated from the mode of ethnic minorities grabbing fireworks in Guangxi, and it was quite large in Qing Dynasty. According to the records of cultural relics in Haifeng County, Shanwei City, in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Shanwei Port's "boat clouds, business travel and rain gathering" has become a major district meeting in Haiyi. The rapid development of fishery and salt production has led to the establishment of government agencies such as Haifeng General Port and Guangdong Customs. Once, businessmen from two countries (China and Viet Nam) and four provinces (Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Zhejiang) gathered together, and Shanwei Port became the meeting point of Fujian-Shantou people, Guangfu people and Jiangxi-Meizhou people. At the same time, it has brought local folk customs and culture, especially the influence of western capitalist economy, and provided new development opportunities for Shanwei Port. So Shanwei has the reputation of "Little Hong Kong". After the expansion of the ancestral temple during the reign of Qianlong in Qing Dynasty (1742), the folk activities of holding a gun party on Mazu's birthday became more prosperous, and the activities were postponed until after the liberation of Shanwei in 1949. Fengshan Temple Gun Club (commonly known as grabbing the gun head) used the method of fighting and grabbing before liberation, and set off 23 colored guns. Those who get 1, 2, and 3 guns symbolize Cai Dingwang, who is lucky for a long time; The 4th to 20th cannons are called Ping 'an cannons, and the 2nd1,22nd and 23rd cannons are called ji zi cannons. The winner is happy and auspicious. Those who won 1, 2, 3 guns and ji zi guns were given a lens by the board of directors as a sacrifice for the winner, and the winner of next year returned the lens and donated a drama gold to Mazu.
Fengshan Temple commemorates the 50th anniversary of Mazu's birth 1050.
201April 18 (on March 23rd of the lunar calendar), the management office of Fengshan Temple Tourist Area and Fengshan Temple Council of Shanwei City, Guangdong Province held an activity to commemorate the birthday of Mazu1050th anniversary in Mazu Cultural Square. Guests from all over the country, overseas Chinese, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, people from all walks of life and Mazu believers gathered together to worship Mazu, bathe in Mazu's kindness, watch local opera performances, local folk art parade performances and wonderful song and dance performances of Shanwei Middle-aged and Old Fitness Song and Dance Team and Sunset Beauty Fitness Team, and personally experience Mazu's fireworks, so that guests from afar and Shanwei people can feast their eyes.
Folk sacrifices are very lively. Since March 20th of the lunar calendar, it has been the climax of Mazu's birthday celebration. I don't know how many party and government workers, farmers, businessmen, overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have been touched. No matter where they are, no matter how busy their work and business are, they will never forget their ancestors. Mazu is blessed by God, and their hometown relatives have become their concern. These days, believers came to Tianhou Baige Town early and prepared a feast, including whole pigs, whole sheep, four barbecues, four pieces of white meat, three servings of wine, cakes, sugar lions, osmanthus trees and other offerings. Thank the Queen Mother to bless the family happiness, successful career, wealth and prosperity, and peace in the four seasons. Here, there are no rude actions, no vulgar words, only proverbs, harmonious atmosphere, cheerful laughter and sincere wishes.
Mazu patrols an 'an and spreads good luck. On the morning of March 23rd, the lunar calendar, Mazu toured An, and everywhere he went, there were empty lanes, trombones ringing, gongs and drums opening the way, thirty-six strong men riding Mazu, eighteen armed guards guarding the back of the temple in the Song Dynasty, the flag of Notre Dame and the flag of the ancestral temple elegant and solemn, and the women's gongs and drums pioneered by Shanwei were beating the strong voice of the times, which has a history of more than 100 years. Colored lights and red lanterns are held high, just like auspicious lights, dancing with fans and full of vitality. The Dragon's Tooth Flag, which has a special antique charm, flutters in the wind and hunts. Ten small flower cars loaded with Mazu fireworks and Mazu stories became a beautiful Mazu cultural communication car. The huge Taiping lion dance danced with the cheerful and elegant rhythm, forming a mighty team to patrol with Mazu. On this day, the believers in the community rushed to the place where Mazu was scheduled to stay, holding incense sticks and waiting patiently for the happy moment. Among the devout believers, there are old people and children who are learning English. The connotation of this is, in their words, "the Mazu we feel is auspicious." Mazu gun show is unprecedented. Mazu's birthday is the most concerned and lively day for Shanwei people, and people will invariably move in one direction, that is, Fengshan Temple, the holy land of Mazu. Here, you can bathe in the good luck given by Mazu, and you can also participate in and feel the wonderful scene of fighting for the gun head. Starting from Mazu's birthday in 1995, Fengshan Temple held Mazu Gun Fair, following the pattern of fighting for guns in Qing Dynasty, and applied for the gun fair for the first time, and was given auspicious names: smooth sailing, double happiness at the door, three Yang Kai Tai, peace in the four seasons, prosperity in the five realms, happiness in the whole family, colorful and prosperity. Since the Mazu Gun Festival was held, it has attracted tens of thousands of overseas Chinese, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and people from all walks of life to participate actively every year, and achieved good social and economic benefits. Fengshan Temple Mazu Gun Club has been listed in Shanwei intangible cultural heritage list, and has been declared in Guangdong intangible cultural heritage list.
