Basketball originated in America 189 1. It was invented by Dr. james naismith, a physical education teacher at the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. However, basketball has been an official Olympic event for 45 years. 1904, at the third Olympic Games held in St. Louis, USA, two American teams played basketball for the first time. 1936, at the 1 1 Berlin Olympic Games, the men's basketball team was finally listed as an official Olympic event. The women's basketball didn't become an official event until197621Montreal Olympic Games.
