According to legend, ladies-in-waiting and eunuchs were buried in dingfuzhuang during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. "Fu" is the blessing head on the coffin, and "Ding" means to make it stable. This name has been used to this day. There is also a walnut forest on the campus of China Communication University in dingfuzhuang. Walnut trees are said to have the function of ward off evil spirits.
