Tongling City, alias Tongdu, belongs to Anhui Province. Tongling is a prefecture-level city. A prefecture-level city, one of chinese administrative division, is the second-level local administrative region and territorial administrative region of China, so it is called "prefecture-level city" because its administrative system level is the same as that of the region. Tongling is famous for its copper and prospers because of it. It is known as "the ancient copper capital of China and the contemporary copper base".

The history of copper mining and smelting began in Shang and Zhou Dynasties, flourished in Han and Tang Dynasties, and lasted for more than 3,500 years. The first copper bath and the first copper ingot in New China are all from Tongling. Tongling built the first copper industrial base, and Tongling issued the first copper stock. Tongling is a national civilized city, a national garden city, a national health city, a national forest city, an excellent tourist city in China, a national fitness demonstration city, and an advanced city in ideological and moral construction for minors.

Tongling City is located in the south-central part of Anhui Province, in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, bordering Fanchang County and Nanling County of Wuhu City in the east, Guichi District and Qingyang County of Chizhou City in the south, Yixiu District, Yingjiang District and Tongcheng City of Anqing City in the west, Lujiang County of Hefei City and Wuwei County of Wuhu City in the north. Between east longitude11704'-1809' and north latitude 30 38'-3109', the longest from north to south is about 56 kilometers and the widest from east to west is about103. It is about 60 kilometers from Wuhu in the east, 30 kilometers from Chizhou and 80 kilometers from Anqing in the west, and 0/25 kilometers from Hefei/KLOC, the provincial capital.

Tongling geotectonics is located in the lower Yangtze depression of Yangtze paraplatform, or in the east wing of Huaiyinshan structural forearc. The exposed strata in the territory are from Upper Ordovician to Quaternary, with developed folds and faults, strong magmatic activity and metamorphic rocks scattered around intrusive rocks.
