In order to apply mahjong as an intangible cultural heritage project, Mr. Xi Shengqi, the former owner of the Mahjong Branch of Tianjin Sports General Association, has written books for many years. He wrote more than 20 books on mahjong, with more than 5 million words.

Thanks to his efforts, competitive mahjong was listed as a district-level intangible cultural heritage in Heping District of Tianjin in 2008, and then the Tianjin Municipal Government approved the inclusion of competitive mahjong in the municipal intangible cultural heritage list in June 2009.
