Steps/methods
Get the right equipment
You need the following devices to set up a wireless network:
Broadband internet connection and modem
Compared with dial-up connection, broadband internet connection is a kind of high-speed internet connection, which is slow and does not support wireless network. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and cable are the two most commonly used broadband connections. You can get a broadband connection by contacting your Internet service provider (ISP). Usually, the ISP that provides DSL is the telephone company, and the ISP that provides cable is the cable company. ISPs usually provide broadband modems and even help you install them. Some ISPs also offer modem/wireless router combinations. You can also find these devices in computers or electronic stores.
wireless router
Routers are used to send information between your network and the Internet. With a wireless router, you can connect your computer to the network using radio signals instead of wired signals. At present, there are many different types of wireless network technologies, including 802. 1 1a, 802. 1 1b, 802.1/n. We suggest to use a router that supports 802. 1 1g or 802.1/n, because these two routers are faster and can provide strong wireless signals.
Wireless network adapter
If your computer needs a wireless network adapter, you can buy it from your computer or electronic store and install it yourself. It is best to choose USB adapter, because it is small in size, easy to install and can be moved to other computers. Make sure to purchase the same type of adapter as the wireless router. The type of adapter is usually marked on the box, usually with a letter, such as G or A. ..
Location of the wireless router
Protect the security of wireless network
Safety is always very important; It is more important when using wireless network, because network signals may spread outside the house. If network security is not protected, users who use nearby computers may access information stored on your network computer and use your Internet connection to surf the Internet. To protect your network, do the following:
Protect your router by changing the default user name and password. Most router manufacturers set the default user name and password on the router and set the default network name. Some users may use this information to access your router without your knowledge. To avoid this risk, please change the default username and password of the router. Please check the information provided by the device for instructions.
Set the security key for the network. Just as a filing cabinet has a key and a safe has a password, a wireless network helps protect the network from unauthorized access through a network security key. To set the network security key, please follow these steps:
Open the network and the * * * Enjoy Center by clicking the Start button and then clicking the Control Panel. In the search box, type Network, and then click Network and * * * Enjoy Center.
Click to set up a new connection or network.
Click Set up a new network, and then click Next.
This wizard will guide you to create a network name and security key. If your router supports it, the wizard will use Wi-Fi by default. Fi secure access (WPA or WPA2) security. We recommend that you use WPA2 as much as possible, because it can provide higher security than WPA or wired equivalent privacy (WEP). You can also use passwords in WPA2 or WPA, so you don't have to remember the encryption order of letters and numbers.
Write down your security key and keep it in a safe place. You can also follow the instructions in the wizard to save the security key on a USB flash drive.
Use a firewall. A firewall is hardware or software that can help protect your computer from hackers or malware. Running a firewall on every computer in the network helps to control the spread of malicious software in the network, and also helps to protect computers when you access the Internet. Windows firewall is included in this version of Windows.
Add a computer to the network
To connect a laptop or desktop computer to a wireless network, follow these steps:
Right-click the network icon (or) in the notification area to open Connect to Network.
In the list of networks, click the network you want to connect to, and then click Connect.
Enter the security key. You can type the key, or insert a USB flash drive with a security key into the USB port of your computer.
* * * Enjoy files and printers.
Most users use wireless networks to access the Internet from any room in their homes, but they also want to be able to freely access files and printers through wireless networks.
The easiest way to share files on the Internet is to set up a * * * homegroup. If there is no homegroup, you can put the files in one of the public folders to enjoy. Any file or folder placed in a public folder will be automatically shared with users connected to your network. To enable public folder * * * entertainment, please follow these steps:
Click the Start button, and then click the Control Panel to open the advanced enjoyment settings. In the search box, type Network, click Network and Entertainment Center, and then click Change Advanced Entertainment Settings in the navigation pane.
Click the v icon to expand the current network profile.
Under Public Folders * * *, click one of the following options:
Enable * * * sharing so that users with network access can read and write files in public folders.
Close public folders * * * (users who log on to this computer can still access these folders).
Click Save Changes. If you are prompted to enter the administrator password or confirm, please enter the password or confirm.
You need to repeat the above steps for each computer that wants to * * * enjoy files.
To * * * enjoy files, please save or copy them to a public folder on your computer. Each type of library (documents, music, videos and pictures) has a public folder. Everyone with a computer user account can * * * use these folders. For example, open the Public Documents folder:
Open the document library by clicking the Start button and then clicking Documents.
In the navigation pane, under Libraries, double-click Documents, and then double-click Public Documents.
Windows7 operating system * * * enjoys the printer.
Under Files and Printers * * *, click Open Files and Printers * *, and then click Save Changes. If you are prompted to enter the administrator password or confirm, please enter the password or confirm.
If key protected access is turned on, users need to enter a user account and password on the computer to access the printer.
To access the printer from any computer on the network, follow these steps:
Click the Start button, and then click the Control Panel to open the network. In the search box, type network, and then under Network and Entertainment Center, click View networked computers and devices.
Double-click the computer icon connected to the printer.
Double click the printer icon. Windows will automatically add printers and install printer drivers for your computer.
Now everything is ready, you can use the wireless network at any time. You can relax on the lounge chair or on the balcony outside, while browsing the web, sending emails or shopping online.
If the printer is connected to one of your computers, you can print to the printer from any computer connected to the wireless network. * * * The easiest way to use a printer is to select the Printer check box when setting up a homegroup. If there is no homegroup, you can follow these steps:
Log on to the computer connected to the printer.
Click the Start button, and then click the Control Panel to open the advanced enjoyment settings. In the search box, type Network, click Network and Entertainment Center, and then click Change Advanced Entertainment Settings in the navigation pane.
Click the v icon to expand the current network profile.
A network adapter is a device that connects a computer to a network. To connect a laptop or desktop computer to a wireless network, the computer must have a wireless network adapter. Most portable computers and many desktop computers are connected with wireless network adapters. To check whether your computer has a wireless network adapter, please follow these steps:
Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click Device Manager under System to open Device Manager. ? If you are prompted to enter the administrator password or confirm, please enter the password or confirm.
Double click the network adapter.
Look for a network adapter with "wireless" in its name.
Matters needing attention
Place the wireless router in the position with the strongest received signal and the least interference. For best results, please follow the following tips:
Put the wireless router in the center. Place the router as close to the center of the house as possible to enhance the strength of wireless signals in the house.
Wireless routers should be far away from the ground, walls and metal objects (such as metal filing cabinets). The fewer physical obstacles between computer and router signals, the more likely it is to make full use of the signal strength of the router.
Reduce interference. 802. 1 1g network devices use 2.4 GHz radio frequency. This frequency is the same as that of most microwave ovens and many cordless phones. If you turn on the microwave oven or use a cordless phone to answer the phone, the wireless signal may be temporarily interrupted. These problems can be avoided by using cordless phones with higher frequencies (such as 5.8 GHz).
