Shaanxi Province is high in the north and low in the south, and consists of plateaus, mountains, plains and basins, of which the Loess Plateau accounts for 40% of the total land area of the province, spanning two major water systems of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River and three major climatic zones. Along the Great Wall in northern Shaanxi, it belongs to the mid-temperate monsoon climate, Guanzhong and northern Shaanxi belong to the warm temperate monsoon climate, and southern Shaanxi belongs to the north subtropical monsoon climate.
Shaanxi is one of the important birthplaces of the Chinese nation and culture, and four regimes, including the Western Zhou Dynasty, Qin Dynasty, Han Dynasty and Tang Dynasty, successively established their capitals in Shaanxi.
