1823, Edward VII Medical College, Sir Stanford Raffles met with Dr. Ma Lixun, a famous sinologist and missionary, to discuss the establishment of an institution of higher learning in Singapore with three departments of science, art and ethics to recruit students from all ethnic groups.

1903, Chinese legislator Chen ruojin led several representatives of the Chinese community and signed a letter with representatives of various ethnic groups in Singapore, calling on the government to set up a medical school.

1905, Chinese communities in Singapore, Malaysia and Southeast Asia raised a total of 87,000 yuan, of which Chen Ruojin donated 12000 yuan to help establish the medical college of the Straits colony and the federal government of Malaya. The medical college enrolled 23 students for the first time, and the class place was located in a mental hospital for elderly women in Sipaipu.

1946 Edward VII Medical College reopened after World War II, and its degree in dental surgery was recognized by the British Medical Council.

1948 Dr. Benjamin Hilles of Raffles College was appointed Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Medical College, and he became the second president of Singapore in 197 1.
