Resolution test comparison
Olympus E-PL3 cooperates with MZ. D 17mm2.8 lens and Panasonic GF3 were tested for sharpness with G 20/1.7aph lens, and ISO 12233 dual-resolution targets were photographed in the same test environment. The following data is based on Imatest.

Panasonic GF3 provides a product called. Intelligent resolution? When we turn this function on for sharpness test, the resolution value of GF3 is amazing. It can be seen from the numerical comparison of resolution between Olympus E-PL3 and Panasonic GF3 that there is a big gap between GF3 when the intelligent resolution is the highest and when it is turned off, but for fairness, we take GF3 as the result of turning off the intelligent resolution. Therefore, the best resolution of E-PL3 is 2883LW/PH, while that of GF3 is 2278 lw/pH ... The following are the screenshots of the measured samples with 100% resolution of Olympus E-PL3 and Panasonic GF3, from which we can further observe the differences in resolution performance between the two products.

As can be seen from the above slice, the fiber details of the third slice Olympus E-PL3 are more outstanding. The following is a comparative test of color performance. We use two products to shoot the X-rite ColorChecker SG color test target with manual white balance at the lowest sensitivity, and then analyze the color, so as to obtain the imaging color error data.

This test chart reflects the difference between the actual imaging color value and the ideal value when E-PL3 is matched with M. ZD 17mm2.8 lens. The part surrounded by gray lines in the figure is the color gamut range of Olympus E-PL3 and MZ. D 17mm2.8 (exceeding the sRGB color gamut by 39.3%). The square color block in the test chart is the ideal color value, and the circular color block is the actual shooting value.

Every digital camera product has its own color style, so it is difficult for us to evaluate its quality, and the scenes suitable for shooting with different color expressive force will be different. Observing the deviation of its color blocks, we can see that the RGB color expression style of Panasonic GF3 is more balanced.

In the noise control ability test, we use the same settings to sample the sample cabinet at the same position, and take a 100% screenshot of it to observe the signal-to-noise ratio performance of Olympus E-PL3 with MZ. D17mm F2.8 lens and Panasonic GF3, with G 20/ 1.7 ASPH lens in each gear. We should not only compare the graininess in the picture, but also consider whether there is color drift and whether the details of the picture can be well preserved. The color bar in the comparison chart represents the acceptable level of noise performance of each product, green is excellent, yellow is acceptable for having a certain impact on the picture, and the closer to the red gear, the worse it is.

The sensitivity range of Panasonic GF3 is ISO 160-6400, and that of Olympus E-PL3 is ISO200- 12800. Both products are very delicate in low-sensitivity gear. Both GF3 and E-PL3 show a slight decrease in definition from ISO400, while a slight noise can be observed in the screenshot of E-PL3.
When reaching ISO800, the noise particles presented by E-PL3 become obvious, while the performance of GF3 is relatively delicate. At ISO 1600, the image noise of GF3 increased relatively, and the graininess of E-PL3 was very obvious, with slight color drift. In ISO3200, the noise of GF3 continues to increase, and the clarity decreases, but the noise transition is uniform and there is no obvious graininess. However, in this gear position, the slices of E-PL3 have obvious color blocks, which have affected the performance of picture details and are basically unusable.
GF3 shows graininess and slight color drift in the slice of its highest sensitivity gear ISO6400. In this gear, the slicing of E-PL3 has reached an unacceptable level. Therefore, unless there is an emergency, it is not recommended to use E-PL3 sensitivity ISO6400 and ISO 12800.

By comparing the comprehensive image quality of Olympus E-PL3 and Panasonic GF3, we can see that the two products have their own advantages in imaging performance. Olympus E-PL3 has a higher imaging resolution than Panasonic GF3, so its detail expression is better than Panasonic GF3. However, if Panasonic GF3 turns the intelligent resolution to the highest level, the resolution of E-PL3 is far less than that of GF3. Moreover, Panasonic G3 has stronger noise control ability. Although there is no obvious difference between Panasonic GF3 and ISO400 in the test, it is obviously superior to Olympus E-PL3 in high-sensitivity imaging details.
Judging from today's comparison results, if we don't consider the new functions of GF3, it must be E-PL3. But today, with the continuous progress of science and technology, the new technology of GF3 is also very attractive. After all, the two major manufacturers are taking different R&D paths. So I think the two cameras have their own characteristics, and finally they are tied.
