Humble Administrator's Garden, located at No.0/78, Northeast Street, gusu district, is a national 5A-level scenic spot and one of the four famous gardens in China. It was built in Zhengde period of Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 400 years. The Humble Administrator's Garden as a whole is a water garden in the south of the Yangtze River, which was later transformed and expanded by successive dynasties and became a palace during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.
The Humble Administrator's Garden covers an area of 78 mu (52,000 square meters) and is divided into three parts: East, Middle and West. Another residential part is now the exhibition hall of the Garden Museum. The eastern part is bright and cheerful, with Pinggang Mountain, pine lawn and bamboo house Qushui as the main areas.
The central part is the essence of Humble Administrator's Garden, with a pool area of 1/3. The swimming pool is dominated by water with lush trees and natural scenery. Buildings with different shapes and scattered heights are arranged at the water's edge, with clear priorities. The pool in the west is in the shape of a curved ruler, which is characterized by the separation of pavilions and terraces, the ups and downs of cloisters, the reflection of water waves, unique taste and gorgeous decoration. The main building is Yuanyang Pavilion No.36 near the side of the house.
Activities in the park
1, Azalea Festival
Since 1997, the Rhododendron Festival has been held in the park every spring (March to May). Nearly 200 kinds of azaleas at home and abroad compete for beauty, and the beautiful potted azaleas and colorful azaleas are quite distinctive, while the large potted azaleas and alpine azaleas in the garden are rare in Jiangnan.
2. Lotus Festival
Lotus has been planted in Humble Administrator's Garden for nearly 500 years, and many scenic spots in the Garden are related to lotus, such as Lotus Pavilion, Yuanxiangtang, Xiangzhou, Lotus Wind Pavilion, Lotus Champs and Liuting Pavilion. Since 1996, the Lotus Festival is held every summer and autumn (June-September). More than 200 varieties of lotus and water lily are gradually opening up, and their fragrance is far and clear, especially pocket lotus and bowl lotus, which are lovely and most distinctive.
