Because there were so many beggars on the roadside at that time, he wouldn't come to the headmaster for money. Seeing the beggar sneaking around, the guard kept holding a pickle jar in his hand.
All these practices are wrong. The doorman will not let the beggars in anyway, but will only drive them away. The beggar had no choice but to sit on the steps and wait for President Mei.
After a long time, the beggar saw a man coming out and rushed to that man at once. Before the guard could react, the beggar immediately called him President Mei.
This man is Mei Yiqi, then president of Tsinghua University. When President Mei saw that he didn't recognize him, he immediately said excitedly, Professor Zhao, how could you be like this?
The headmaster quickly lifted the beggar up and invited him into the office. So what is this person's identity, let's continue to see.
This beggar is a professor in Tsinghua University, whose name is Zhao Zhongyao. 1902, from Zhejiang. When he was young, his family asked him to study hard.
Father attaches great importance to children's education. Under the influence of his father, he gradually became interested in learning and did well in school.
Through continuous study, he developed great enthusiasm for physics, and was admitted to the Physics Department of Nanjing Normal University on 1920, and began to pursue physics.
He learned a lot of physics knowledge at school and collected a lot of knowledge that he couldn't learn at school. After graduation, I went to Southeast University as a teaching assistant.
It was while he was giving lectures to the students that he gradually realized that China was weak in physics, and this situation needed to be improved.
And he also knows that to learn advanced physics knowledge, he must learn from abroad. In this way, he decided to study abroad. 1927, he went to California Institute of Technology to study alone.
Here, he learned a lot of physics knowledge, and he also worked with the atomic bomb master Rutherford. In the laboratory, two people cooperate well.
Rutherford also rated him as an excellent physicist. In this way, the friendship between the two became deeper.
After studying for several years, he decided to return to China and give all his knowledge to the students.
193 1, he is ready to leave. Just before he left, Rutherford gave him 50 milligrams of radium, hoping that he could study it well after returning home.
This gift is very heavy for our country. At that time, our knowledge in this field was very weak. He expressed great gratitude to Rutherford.
Thank him for his contribution to the nuclear test. He knows what 50 milligrams of radium stands for. He is the hope of scientific research in China in the future.
But such an important thing will definitely attract the attention of the enemy, so he decided not to tell anyone the fact that he carried 50 milligrams of radium.
After returning to his motherland, he immediately kept this 50 mg radium in his laboratory in Tsinghua University, only a few physicists knew it, and no one else knew it.
At the same time, Zhao Zhongyao established the first nuclear physics laboratory in China and continued to study his achievements. But what I didn't expect was that Japan launched a war of aggression against China.
1937, the Japanese army began to invade our country, and Tsinghua University teachers and students retreated to Changsha temporary campus for safety.
I only took some important things with me when I left, but I couldn't take away many laboratory equipment, including the 50 mg of radium.
Although China didn't have the conditions for use at that time, if it fell into the hands of the Japanese, they might send it back to Japan to make weapons that would endanger the people. This is really unimaginable.
Of course, Zhao Zhongyao will not let this happen. No matter what method is used, it will be brought out, so Zhao Zhongyao told his friends who had already retreated to let them evacuate first.
I want to go back to school by myself and keep up. President Mei advised me for a long time, but it was useless, so I had to promise him. In this way, he began his plan to retrieve radium.
By this time, however, Japanese officers had occupied Beijing and controlled many universities, including Tsinghua University. Because this is an education-related institution in China,
It's very important for our country. Of course, Japan knows it, so it immediately sent people to be stationed here. When Zhao Zhongyao saw this, he couldn't do it during the day, so he had to sneak into school at night.
As night fell, he sneaked into the school. With his familiarity with the school, he escaped many Japanese troops and arrived at the laboratory smoothly, taking away 50 milligrams of radium.
After leaving school, in order not to be discovered, he put radium in a very shabby jar, but how could he escape the eyes of the Japanese army?
So he took off his coat, put on a tattered dress, messed up his hair, dusted off, dressed as a beggar and prepared to leave for Changsha.
Along the way, he experienced many difficulties, because the Japanese army went south all the way, and he could only ask where the Japanese army was while walking.
Then avoid the Japanese route. Sometimes I can't hide, so I can only disguise myself and venture across the Japanese occupation. Fortunately, the Japanese are not interested in beggars.
And whenever he meets a place guarded by the Japanese army, he chooses to start at night, so the risk factor will drop. So a month later, he came to Changsha.
But he didn't know the specific address, so he began to inquire. Finally, he found a temporary campus in Tsinghua. He wanted to go in and put his things down quickly, so the opening scene appeared.
Shortly after he came to Changsha, Changsha also fell, and the school immediately decided to move to Kunming. On the road, Zhao Zhongyao kept holding his pickle jar and never left Zhao Zhongyao's side.
He knew the importance of this thing and the harm it might bring, so Zhao Zhongyao didn't trust to give it to others. In this way, a group of teachers and students came to Kunming.
This jar printed two blood stains on him, but he didn't care, so he sealed the jar, but it didn't work yet.
The next time I really opened it, it was 22 years later, and it finally worked. 1946, the United States tested an atomic bomb on an island in the Pacific Ocean.
At that time, Zhao Zhongyao was there, and he was lucky enough to witness the power of the atomic bomb. At that time, a mushroom cloud rose in the sky, and he was shocked to know his destructiveness.
But he thinks, when can we develop an atomic bomb without it in China? Zhao Zhongyao thought of this and immediately went to the United States to study nuclear physics and cosmic rays.
Here, he works harder than before, soaking in the laboratory every day, studying the manufacturing process and parameters of the accelerator and learning all kinds of knowledge.
Many people think that he is bored and spends all his time on these components, but after four years of special research, he finally developed the accelerator, and many materials related to nuclear tests have been sent back to China one after another.
1949, after the founding of New China, Zhao Zhongyao decided to immediately get up and go back to China to continue his research. However, on his way back to China, he was targeted by the US military and screwed up a lot of materials, which made him heartbroken.
Zhao Zhongyao decided to go back to China for a while. At 1950, he finally set foot on the road to return home, but the accident came again, but this time he didn't do anything terrible. Some books and periodicals were confiscated.
Fortunately, Zhao Zhongyao continued on his way. When the ship was sailing for Japan, an American speedboat stopped it, detained it in Japan and severely interrogated Zhao Zhongyao.
But he didn't say anything. His belief was simple. Among them, the representative of the Kuomintang in Japan asked him to work in Taiwan Province Province, but he did not agree.
They also threatened to tell Zhao Zhongyao if he didn't want to stay in Japan. But Zhao Zhongyao never said.
After two months' trial, Zhao Zhongyao decided to return to China. Fortunately, everything has paid off. 1950 1 1 At the end of the year, Zhao Zhongyao finally returned to the motherland.
Brought back 30 boxes of equipment. After returning to China, Zhao Zhongyao quickly put himself into experiments and developed China's own V2 accelerator with his team, which laid the foundation for the production of China's atomic bomb.
So, with the joint efforts of many people, China's first atomic bomb was successfully tested in Xinjiang in 1964, and then China's first hydrogen bomb was successfully tested in 1967.
Our country finally possessed its own nuclear weapons, which made nuclear physics get attention in our country, and Zhao Zhongyao finally realized his dream.
Not only that, he also devoted himself to the education of the motherland, trained generations of students and trained a large number of talents for the development of China's physics field.
1999 on the 50th anniversary of the founding of new China, China specially distributed two bombs and one star medals to 23 scientists, many of whom were students from Zhao Zhongyao.
But in 1998, Mr Zhao Zhongyao left us at the age of 96. His contribution to our country deserves everyone's admiration. He devoted his life to physics.
Ok, that's all for this video. See you next time.
