situation of play
Young Adam (Ray Wenner) wakes up first from a coma and finds himself handcuffed to a rusty iron pipe in a shabby basement. I can't get rid of the terrible pain in my head for a while, but my eyes have begun to get used to the dim light: across the room, there is another person in handcuffs: lawrence gordon (played by Cali Elvis), who is also at a loss. Between them, there was a body lying in a pool of blood with a 38 mm pistol in his hand.
No one knows why he was kidnapped, let alone why he appeared in such a strange place. No one knows what he should do next, but the murderer left them instructions. There is a small interview machine in the body's hand, which records the kidnapper's instructions: Gordon must kill his friend within eight hours. If the mission fails, not only two people will still die, but also Gordon's wife Alison (monica potter) and her daughter born to die.
The kidnapper's actions can't help but remind Gordon of a murderer that Detective Tapp (Danny Grauwo) is investigating recently. This psychopathic murderer likes to kidnap victims he thinks he doesn't cherish and let them experience the value of life in killing each other. Now, he and Adam have become the pawns of the murderer, facing the fate similar to that of the previous victims.
There are only a few hours before the deadline for death, but the strength of the two sides is so different: the murderer seems to know them like the back of his hand, but they only know that he is a schizophrenic fanatic nicknamed "chain saw"; The murderer controls the fate of two people and their families, but the clues they can get from the scene seem to be left by the murderer on purpose; The murderer used all kinds of equipment to control their actions, but only left them with two saws-they were not enough to open their handcuffs, but they could completely break meat and bones. ...
Only by overcoming fear can we find out the loopholes in this elaborate puzzle, and only by uniting together can we find a way to save ourselves, and can we reverse our disadvantages in Hide and Seek and escape from this world!
Comments: More bloody suspense, more unexpected.
Saw is a very bloody and cruel movie, which will inevitably make some people feel sick. If a horror movie makes people feel this way, it means half the battle has been won. A morbid and crazy killer, all kinds of grotesque and horrible killing methods, and a meaningful central theme have made Wen Shenghao's outstanding debut. Even compared with those excellent suspense films "Memento", "Identity" and "Seven Deaths" created by predecessors, Saw is not inferior at all.
Behind the scenes production:
Two people were thrown into the basement bathroom. They only know that "one of the two can only live" within eight hours, or they will all die. The film won the screams of the film festival audience with its tense, complex, thrilling, fascinating plot and unexpected ending. Strong gastrointestinal reaction and unique human perspective left a deep impression on the audience's sulcus.
"This movie will make you imagine what you would do if you were there, and how would you escape?" Malaysian-born director Wen Shenghao said. The perspective of the film story is entirely from the victim's point of view, not from the police's point of view as usual. In addition to the bloody horror, the film is still designing a severe moral test. The murderer is not only driven by cruelty and madness, but also wants the victim to feel the value of life. In one scene, the game of death really changed the attitude of a survivor, as cary elwes, who plays Dr. Lawrence, said, "Don't take life for granted, and don't wait until it's too late to know how to cherish it."
For director Wen Shenghao, this movie is a new attempt in the field of horror movies. Saw's courage and surrealism were directly influenced by two masters, David Lynch and dario argento. From the beginning, James wanted to make an extremely cruel and vicious film, and all the characters and the environment were in danger.
James asked Ray Wenner to write the play together. Coincidentally, the latter was in a health crisis. Although his life was not endangered in the end, his outlook on life was strongly shaken, and the theme of cherishing life came into being.
After the script was written, the agent immediately urged them to go to Los Angeles to find a film company willing to shoot. However, for these two poor people, the trip to Los Angeles will undoubtedly be an unknown trip that wastes people and money. It is better to do one thing with half the effort than to bump blindly. So James and Wenner raised thousands of dollars to shoot a short film of cruel scenes, carved it into DVD and sent it to Los Angeles with the script.
Thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, producer greg hoffman saw this DVD, and he was stunned by the picture in just 2 or 3 minutes. Soon, the two sides reached an agreement. The film is directed by James Wen and starred by Ray Wenner. Three months later, Saw started shooting.
The response caused by this film is unique. This small-budget film, with a shooting investment of only $654.38+200,000, has a total box office of over 55 million in the United States.
Trivia:
The Motion Picture Association of America initially rated Saw as NC- 17, and Wen Shenghao had to cut some contents to meet the R standard.
The film only took five days to prepare, 18 days to shoot, and all the actors never rehearsed.
Saw shown at Sundance Film Festival is an unedited version of NC- 17.
The car chase in the film was shot in a garage.
Director Wen Shenghao didn't get paid in advance, but chose to pay dividends.
Some horror scenes in the film originated from the childhood nightmares of Wen Shenghao and Ray Wenner.
