Characteristics of Guangzhou
Guangzhou is located in the south-central part of Guangdong Province, on the northern edge of the Pearl River Delta, near the South China Sea, Hong Kong and Macao. It is the southern gate of China to the world, the central city of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Pan-Pearl River Delta Economic Zone, and the hub city of the Belt and Road Initiative. Guangzhou is a national historical and cultural city. Since the Qin Dynasty, Guangzhou has been the administrative center of counties, states and governments.
It has always been the political, military, economic, cultural and scientific and educational center of southern China, and the birthplace and prosperity of Lingnan culture. Guangzhou became the main port of the Maritime Silk Road in 1930s, the largest port in China in Tang and Song Dynasties, and a world-famous oriental port city. It was the only foreign trade port in China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the only foreign trade port in the world that lasted for more than 2,000 years.
