There is an essay on Miao folk customs.
Every year, it lasts for three days from March 15th of the lunar calendar, which is a traditional festival of Miao people along Qingshui River in Guizhou Province. The biggest feature of Girls' Day is to eat girls' meals.

There is a story among Miao people in Guizhou: It is said that a long time ago, Qingshui River was the world of Miao sisters, where dozens of smart, hardworking and beautiful girls lived. They have no worries about food and clothing and live a happy life. The only fly in the ointment is that it is remote and few people come, so I have grown up but never got married. After discussion, they decided that everyone would prepare meals and hold a dinner party, and invited Miao boys from eight surrounding villages to sing and dance with them. On the day of the sisters' dinner, many young men came from afar. The girls treated them warmly, and the boys showed their skills, singing, dancing, playing cucurbit, bullfighting and horse racing. It's really lively. When leaving, the girls wrapped glutinous rice in embroidered handkerchiefs and gave them to their favorite boys. A few days later, the happy boy returned to the girl's village and said that they had returned the handkerchief. In fact, they brought many small gifts that girls like to express their gratitude. Since then, they have often come and gone, known each other and established feelings. Soon all the girls found their favorite people ... Since then, the custom of eating sister meals and celebrating sister's day has been passed down from generation to generation. Now it is not only a festival for women, but also a festival for the Miao people along the Qingshui River, especially for young men and women. On the day before the festival, girls from every Miao family will go up the mountain to pick wild flowers and wild fruits to celebrate Sister's Day. Young men from afar accompanied the girls up the mountain to help pick wild flowers and fruits. During the activity, they got to know each other.

Girls soak the colors of wild flowers and fruits, dye glutinous rice red and yellow, and make sister rice. The steamed glutinous rice is colorful, crystal clear, beautiful, soft and delicious. On the festival day, every family eats sister meals. The girls' hearts are also hidden in this girl's rice. The girls wrapped the sister meal in handkerchiefs or baskets and gave it to the young man who had been with her for two days. The young man opened the rice bag. If there is a pair of red chopsticks on my sister's meal, it means that this girl likes him and is willing to make friends with him. If there is only one chopstick, it is that the girl gently hints to the young man that he should stop unrequited love; If there are peppers, onions and garlic on the sister's meal, it means that the girl doesn't like him, and the interesting guy is going to shift his target; If there are leaves and pine needles on the sisters' dinner, it is to tell the young man that there is at least hope, and the young man should buy some silks and satins or silk threads for the girl to strengthen contact and understanding.

After having a sister meal, the girls dressed in festive costumes watched bullfighting, bird shooting, singing and dancing, playing lusheng and beating wooden drums with the boys. After dusk, the grass, beach and Woods by the river are full of young people. They got together to sing and talk about love, tender and touching love songs floated leisurely, and full of love hearts passed quietly. People have a good time and often stay up all night.
