In our humble opinion, the strength of the church is actually caused by the lack of imperial power and royal power in Europe. When it comes to economic base, the enfeoffment system in Europe is hard to get rid of. Compared with the enfeoffment system of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the fundamental difference of the enfeoffment system from Taixi in the Middle Ages was the close relationship between the superior and the subordinate, that is, the vassal of Western Europe assumed greater obligations to its lords, especially economic obligations. Although, these differences are still not enough to eliminate the fundamental drawback of the enfeoffment system, that is, once the land is enfeoffment, the lords have no absolute restraint on the princes. In fact, nine times out of ten, the means by which the king strengthened his rule at that time was war, including the means by which Xian Zong attacked our army's restraint in the National Yuan and 1990, or the means by which Chiang Kai-shek restrained local troops. Therefore, the relationship between medieval European aristocrats, kingship and imperial power (holy Roman empire) can be described as very subtle. In a word, it is restricted and used.
Therefore, the church, living between kingship and nobility, can mediate in the middle and exert its strength, or stand by and take advantage of it. At that time, although the king was incompetent, he still had an advantage over the nobles, so the kingship from the Frankish Kingdom (later the Holy Roman Empire) to England tended to expand. If the monarchy gains absolute status, it will establish a secular country in Europe like Sinian and Rome. If so, the church will have to withdraw from the political field and only divide itself into a corner of culture. Because the church and the nobility often stand on the same front, the kingship is almost not superior to the nobility. With the strength of the church, the chances of winning are not great. On this point, please refer to Canossa's Confession. At that time, the threat of the German nobles during the trip to Kanosha was the fundamental reason for Henry IV's compromise, and the behavior of the church was only superficial.
Therefore, in our view, the prevalence of Christianity is the result of fundamental social changes in Lu Chen after the destruction of secular society. The incredible power of the church is based on the power of European aristocrats and is the product of suppressing kingship.
