"Melon paste" should be a kind of imported precious wood commonly known as "sweet niobium", which was brought home by overseas Chinese. When the humidity in the air is high, small water droplets will condense on the surface, just like glass mirrors and tile floors now. Once the farmer picks up the pole and sees the water droplets, he knows that the weather is wet and the climate has changed.
