Rule the country with righteousness, fight with strangeness, and take the world with nothing. How should I know? In this way: there are many taboos in the world and the people are poor; Many people are sharp weapons, and the country is dizzy; Many people are clever, and strange things are born; Many laws, many thieves. Therefore, the sage said: I do nothing, but the people make it themselves; I am so quiet that the people are self-righteous; I have nothing to do and the people are rich; I have no desire, but the people are simple.
Governing by doing nothing, governing quietly, using troops skillfully, and governing the world secretly will disturb the people and harm the world. How do I know that? This is the basis: the more taboos in the world, the more people fall into poverty; The more sharp weapons the people have, the more chaotic the country will be; The more people's skills, the more evil spirits and strange things will be; The stricter the law, the more thieves there are.
Therefore, a Taoist sage said, I do nothing, and the people educate themselves; I am quiet and the people are naturally rich; I want nothing, and the people are naturally simple.
Brief introduction of Tao Te Ching:
Tao Te Ching is a philosophical work written by Laozi in the Spring and Autumn Period, also known as the moral truth, with 5,000 words and 5,000 articles by Laozi. It is a work of China before the separation of the pre-Qin philosophers in ancient times, and it is an important source of Taoist philosophy. Tao Te Ching is divided into two parts. The first part of the original text is the Tao Te Ching, and the second part is the Tao Te Ching, without chapters. Later, it was changed to the Tao Te Ching in the first 37 chapters, and the Tao Te Ching in the last 38 chapters, divided into 8 1 chapters.
The text of Tao Te Ching takes "morality" in the philosophical sense as the main line, and discusses the ways of self-cultivation, governing the country, using troops and keeping in good health, but most of them aim at politics. It is the so-called "inner sage and outer king", known as the king of all classics, with profound meaning and wide tolerance.
Tao Te Ching is one of the greatest works in the history of China, which has a profound influence on traditional philosophy, science, politics and religion. According to the statistics of UNESCO, the Tao Te Ching is the most widely translated and published cultural masterpiece except the Bible.
