The source of Shen Si soup:
Shen Si decoction is a famous prescription for strengthening the spleen in TCM, in which "Shen Si" refers to Poria cocos, Chinese yam, lotus seeds and Euryale euryales (or coix seed), and they complement each other together. According to legend, when Emperor Qianlong went down to the south of the Yangtze River, four courtiers who waited on him fell ill one after another because of working day and night, and ships and cars ran around. Faced with this situation, even physicians are at a loss.
So Emperor Qianlong ordered the local county magistrate to post a list for medical treatment. Soon, a monk came to unveil the list, took his pulse and prescribed a prescription of "stewed pork belly with lotus seeds, Gordon Euryale, Hu Aishan and Poria", and declared that "four ministers, the matter has been done". After the four great men surrendered to this prescription, they really recovered immediately.
Since then, every time officials make a southern tour, they cook food in this way for health preservation. Over time, this convenience was widely circulated among the people in the name of "Four Ministers Soup". When this recipe spread to Taiwan Province Province, it was not clear about the origin of "Sishen Decoction", and the Taiwanese pronunciation of "minister" and "Shen" was the same, so it became "Sishen Decoction".
