Zhong Ziqi (4 13-354) was born in Hanyang (now Jixian Village, caidian district, Wuhan City, Hubei Province), a native of Chu during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. According to legend, Zhong Ziqi was a woodcutter, wearing a hat and hemp fiber, carrying a pole and an axe.

According to historical records, Boya played the piano by the Han River when visiting relatives and returning home. Zhong Ziqi happened to meet him and sighed: "Magnificent as a mountain, magnificent as a river." Because of the same interests, the two became close friends. After Zhong Ziqi died, Boya thought that there was no bosom friend in the world, and he would never play the piano again.
