What is lipoma?
Lipoma is a common benign tumor of soft tissue, which is composed of mature fat cells. It often occurs in any fat part of the body, mostly in shoulders, back, neck, chest and abdomen, followed by proximal limbs, such as upper arms, thighs and buttocks. Mainly known as subcutaneous superficial lipoma, it can also be seen between the deep part of the limb and the skin as deep lipoma. Most of the patients are older, more common in middle-aged people aged 40-60, and less common in children. Deep lipoma, mostly growing along the muscle, can reach the periosteum, but rarely invades the adjacent bones. Lipomas rarely become malignant, and surgery is easy to remove. Lipoma is a very common benign tumor in clinic. Because the pathogenesis or etiology of lipoma is not particularly clear, its prevention is limited. Clinically, losing weight or controlling weight and reducing the intake of high cholesterol and greasy food may reduce the formation of lipoma. At the same time, for some small diffuse lipomas, fitness, exercise and paper-cutting can be considered to reduce the occurrence and development of lipomas. For larger lipomas, surgical methods can also be considered. For example, if the clinical lipoma is larger than 5cm, which affects the appearance or has pain, traditional incision surgery can be performed to completely remove the lipoma with little postoperative recurrence.
