Inch strength exercise
The external reasons for the power of "Cunjin Boxing" The so-called external reasons for the power of "Cunjin Boxing" refer to the purpose of hitting hard or making all parts of the body "kung fu" through some external training means. In other words, training is not only to make muscles beautiful, but more importantly, it must have enough lethality and destructive power to make opponents suffer heavy losses. Bruce Lee believed that the human body should have good speed, agility, flexibility and attack accuracy first, and then it should have the greatest absolute strength. On the surface, "inch boxing" is the release of local strength, but in essence it is the result of coordinated efforts of the whole body. Bruce Lee once said, for example, a person who can bench press 400 pounds (about180kg) may get good results in heavy equipment events (such as shot put), but he can't coordinate and mobilize the muscles of all parts of his body to show his attack power. In other words, Bruce Lee's extraordinary strength and extremely fast speed, coupled with excellent physical coordination, made him a leader in melee or buried warfare. Bruce Lee looks a little lean, but as long as he gestures, his lethality is fatal. In order to develop incredible strength, Bruce Lee organically combined quality improvement with technical practice, and sublimated his already profound martial arts to a near-perfect state. Bruce Lee's practice of "Cunjin Boxing" is really crazy. Enosando recalled that Bruce Lee often raised dumbbells to practice "inching fist" in training, and he practiced 12 groups every time, each group 100 times. His hands continuously held dumbbells weighing 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 pounds for six groups of "pyramid" increments. Then, Bruce Lee once asked the author to train with him once. Wow, my deltoid muscles and arms are so sour! In the process of "Cunjin Boxing" training, Bruce Lee also attaches great importance to forearm training, because although the distribution point of "Cunjin Boxing" strength is the fist face, its strength comes from the body. In other words, the arm is an important carrier or transmission tool to convey the whole body strength to the fist surface. Linda also said that Bruce Lee's forearm exercises (especially wrist exercises) have reached the stage of "superb", because the effective play of "inch boxing" requires higher requirements for forearm and wrist joints and requires special wrist lifting skills. If your wrist can't bear the huge buffering force, "inch boxing" is completely useless. Bob Wall, an American karate master who has cooperated with Bruce Lee in many films, once said that Bruce Lee's powerful forearms played a very important role in his kungfu system. He put it this way: "Bruce Lee has the largest forearm-to-body ratio of anyone I have ever met. He not only has an extremely developed forearm, but also a pair of iron fists and ten steel fingers, which is terrible. " In addition, Van Williams, a movie star who worked with Bruce Lee in the TV series The Green Hornet, recalled that as good friends, he and Bruce Lee both had powerful forearms, but they got them in different ways. Bruce Lee was obtained through special training, but he was born or indirectly obtained by doing other competitive sports on this basis. The strong man with a height of 1.83m and a weight of 95kg was the only one who could wrestle with Bruce Lee at that time. Now he is embarrassed to say, "Bruce Lee is incredible. We are not a competitor at the same level. I am 40 kg ahead of him, but his forearm is the strongest among people of the same weight I have ever seen." In fact, Bruce Lee always wins the "arm-wrestling" competition. Another of his disciples, Herb Jackson, recalled that Bruce Lee joked that he would become the world champion of this sport. In the whole training process of "Cunjin Boxing", or in the whole training system of Jeet Kune Do, there are many ways to exercise forearms and wrist joints, but according to Joe Lewis, a direct disciple of the master, one of the most commonly used methods in Bruce Lee in those days was to horizontally extend the barbell weighing 34kg and keep it still for 30 seconds. Of course, this is incredible for a person who weighs just over 60 kilograms, because even a person who weighs 90 kilograms may not be able to do it. In addition, Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee's first disciple in the United States, recalled that Bruce Lee used to pull a load-bearing pulley, hit the sandbox with his fist and "turn his wrist" with a 30 kg dumbbell tied with a short rope to further strengthen his forearm. Finally, Glover added that Bruce Lee paid attention to the training of forearms and wrist joints, because he thought that in order to make the fist burst into powerful force, the joints should first be able to withstand and transmit the powerful force generated during the attack. The internal reason for the power of "Cunjin Boxing" is that in the eyes of many laymen, Jeet Kune Do is similar to western boxing, but this is only because Bruce Lee devoted himself to practicing boxing in his early years and integrated its essence into his own kung fu. From here, we can see that Bruce Lee's boxing is superior to the western boxing, because it contains the profound connotation of China Wushu, especially some valuable theories and techniques in family boxing, because he has also carefully studied Tai Ji Chuan, Xingyiquan and Bagua Palm. Therefore, it is far from enough to thoroughly analyze the real cause of the amazing lethality of "Cunjin Boxing", because compared with the great role of internal work, external force and external work can only be regarded as fur. First of all, "Cunjin Boxing" pays great attention to the use of connotation. The so-called inner meaning is the concept and consciousness hidden in people's thinking system. It is invisible, invisible and silently hidden in the soul, and it is the key factor that determines a person's actions. In other words, every stroke you make is inseparable from the command and mobilization of your mind and consciousness to your limbs. For example, when you want to hit your opponent with your fist, the first thing you think of is that you have the idea and consciousness of hitting through the beginning of your heart, and this idea and consciousness is not realized by your opponent. Once the idea of fighting becomes a will, that is, after the determination to fight is made, the eyes, heart and hands will unite and guide the spirit with meaning, and the spirit will prompt the Force to form a strike action on the outer limb. Internal qi is also a very important factor in the training and application of "Cunjin Boxing". When qi decays, the strength is not enough, so it is difficult to burst into great lethality in the shortest time and the shortest distance.

Therefore, if you can concentrate the internal force on the attack point when you strike, you can send out a powerful shock and penetration from the rapid rotation and accumulation of instantaneous internal force. In traditional martial arts, one of the important signs to measure a master's internal strength is to see whether he can explode the greatest strength in the shortest time and the shortest distance. There is another trick you may not have heard of, that is, the use of internal strength. Although Bruce Lee once said that boxing should let "flowing energy" permeate the body, many learners think that this is only a theoretical requirement. In fact, we all know that internal qi is the source of internal strength. People who practice internal boxing usually pay attention to the qi stagnation in dantian, but when they are full of energy, they can't do without "spitting out dantian". Of course, no matter in the usual practice or in the actual application, we should exercise restraint in the distribution of power, not too much or too frequently, because if we distribute explosive power too much, we will be frustrated and exhausted, and Bruce Lee's own example is the best illustration. What I mean here is that in normal practice, the frequency of burst strength should be properly controlled by people, and only by gestating and storing more than sending and releasing can the human body have greater and stronger strength, instead of taking the old road of Bruce Lee's internal failure. Because in a broad sense, the purpose of practicing martial arts is to nourish the yuan and benefit qi and keep fit. If you don't know the method of nourishing yuan and benefiting qi, you will not be able to make your body strong for a long time, but will hurt your body. Therefore, the author has the responsibility to remind all martial arts practitioners to pay attention. "If you don't practice martial arts, you will accomplish nothing in the end." This sentence is very good, and it tells the root of practicing boxing. Only when you really have this ability can you talk about applying it to people, that is, this hidden and murderous force suddenly acts on the key parts of your opponent unconsciously, forming a fatal blow. The distribution of power during the attack of "inch punch" can be further discussed. First of all, the faster the explosive force, the greater the impact; The closer the attacker is, the easier it is to increase the difficulty of defense and cracking. The shorter the time, the more effective the attack is. Secondly, there is also a problem of timeliness in the attack, that is, it can neither break out too early nor too late. If it is too early, it will make the body difficult to contact and it will be difficult to receive the effect; If it is too late, it will form an over-potential fist, which has no lethality at all. Therefore, when practicing "inch boxing", we must carefully understand the timing of the attack, so that "the power of quick wits" can erupt like lightning, thunder and explosion. As we all know, "Cunjin Boxing" is the most exquisite boxing method in Jeet Kune Do, and it also requires high technology and boxing theory. If you can't understand the nuances and key points, but practice according to the general requirements of boxing, it will definitely not produce high-quality strength. That is to say, if we practice "Cunjin Boxing" blindly with brute force like ordinary textbooks, then even if we practice hard all our lives, we can't practice "Cunjin Boxing" well. In the process of "inch boxing", it is most important to keep the head upright, because the head is the master of the whole body. If you want to keep upright, you need to "empty the collar and top the neck". Although it is also very important to use sound to assist in exerting power, it is not necessary to shout loudly when every action reaches a fixed point, because if the sound is emitted too frequently, a lot of hot air will be scattered outside, resulting in the loss of money. Moreover, when you hit with "inch fist", you should also grit your teeth. This can not only increase your whole body strength, but also concentrate your strength and the strength when hitting the target, thus enhancing your "penetration", which is called "biting your teeth" in traditional martial arts. In fact, when you stand in front of the enemy, you will definitely grit your teeth tightly. After gritting your teeth, you will feel full of courage and strength, and you will have an overwhelming spirit, so that you can mentally attack your opponent first. According to Bruce Lee's requirements, if you want to play a high-quality "inch punch", the role of the shoulder is also very important, because the shoulder joint belongs to the root of the "three sections", and whether the qi, blood and internal work can be smoothly transmitted to the elbow through the shoulder and then to the hand through the elbow will play a decisive role in the relaxation and contraction of the shoulder. For example, Bruce Lee once said that the application of human internal force is like water flowing through a water pipe and pushing it to the attack point, but if the root of the water pipe is tied tightly, the "flowing water" may not be smooth. Generally speaking, the exercise and requirement for the shoulder joint is to relax it first, and then gradually turn to the exercise of sinking the shoulder under the premise of qi and blood access, so that the shoulder joint sinks slightly, thus promoting the internal strength and qi and blood of the human body to be invested in the Yongquan, elbow, hand, waist and spine. Although Bruce Lee's acrobatic pictures also illustrate the importance of the elbow joint in heavy hitting from the side, it is a pity that there is no detailed written explanation, so the author can only improve his theory according to some outlines recorded in those years and under the guidance of his martial arts thoughts. In martial arts, the elbow is the middle section, which is the link between the preceding and the following, so the middle section must not be empty. If the strength of the elbow joint is empty, the stored strength of the whole upper limb and body will be dispersed. Because the root node is the source of power, the middle node is the hiding place of power, and the sharp node (hands and feet) is the final point of power. In the process of "inch punch", the basic requirement is "elbow flexion is positive", that is, the elbow must have the power to sag downward, which is also the key to make the practitioner gradually master the disadvantages of neither leaning forward nor leaning back, nor producing the disease of vanity. The next step is to urge the elbow to exert strength, because the shoulder does not urge the elbow to be weak, and the elbow does not urge the hand to feel inferior. Only by urging elbows with shoulders can strength penetrate elbows, and by urging hands with elbows, strength can be gained, that is, three segments are integrated. This is also one of the secrets of Bruce Lee's power when he punches. Wrist is the tip joint, and it is also the joint connecting hand and arm. In Bruce Lee's "Cunjin Boxing", it has a unique function and a unique posture, which is also an important technical link to learn the technique of "Cunjin Boxing". Before the attack, the fist is moderately relaxed and the wrist collapses slightly (Figure 292). At the moment when the fist rushed out of contact with the target, the wrist suddenly turned up, and at the same time clenched the fist, hitting the target from the front with the lower end of the fist (Figure 293), focusing on the three knuckles at the lower part of the fist. Here, the reason why Bruce Lee asked to collapse before punching is because this unique posture can focus on the Shenmen point of the hand and increase the support of the wrist. If the wrist joint is adjusted in a normal posture, the strength will not be concentrated on Shenmen point, which is especially needed for "inch-strength boxing", but on Laogong point. The advantage of injecting energy into Laogong point is that it is more energetic, but it can't produce "inch energy" that vibrates internal organs. Therefore, the special wrist movement skill of "Cunjin Boxing" is the last decisive link to accelerate "Cunjin Boxing".
