All stages of the client-personal trainer relationship
The early client-personal trainer relationship usually includes four stages, and each stage has different requirements for personal trainer's communication skills (Figure 4- 1). When a personal trainer meets a new client for the first time, he must first break the deadlock and establish a tacit relationship, which is a sign that both sides can understand and trust each other. The stage of establishing tacit relationship begins with the first impression. Therefore, it is very important for personal trainers to use effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills from the first day and reach out to customers with approachable career aspirations. The tacit relationship will deepen over time. The longer personal trainers work with clients, the more they will understand this. Early mutual promotion and respect laid the foundation for the customer's personal education relationship.
The network of clients and personal trainers will enter the next discussion stage, focusing on clients' health status, physical fitness and lifestyle information, as well as existing diagnosis and treatment results.
All stages of customs clearance, doctors' advice, and customers' daily standards and sports experience. At this stage of action, the personal trainer can get to know the clients and get as much useful information as possible by actively listening and using the skills of motivational interview, and at the same time stimulate the clients' motivation to change their activity level (such as values and goals).
Planning Then, the relationship between the client and the personal trainer develops to the planning stage. At this stage, personal trainers use effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills to design exercise plans in cooperation with clients. At this point, the customer is ready to start practicing, indicating that the customer-personal trainer relationship has begun to enter the action stage. In this discussion, it is very important to master the ability to effectively teach new sports skills.
It is important to remember that although these stages describe the traditional development process of the client-personal trainer relationship, they usually have a tacit understanding of this relationship. For example, building a tacit relationship will run through the relationship between clients and personal trainers. Similarly, personal trainers often re-investigate customers when looking at cooking records and evaluation results.
