You are personally responsible for poor custody, and you are responsible for poor management of the gym. However, many places have tips that valuables should be handed over to bars for safekeeping, so the police can only define it as theft. It would be nice if we could solve the case through monitoring. If not, discuss with the gym and let them take part of the responsibility, even if they go to court.
