1946 In the summer, according to the decision of the National YMCA and the Shanghai Youth Conference, Tian planned to change the YMCA middle school into an industrial middle school, buy a batch of lathes and machines, and carry out vocational education. The subject director made a mountain out of a molehill and ordered to suspend classes and record a demerit. The students refused to accept it, published letters to people from all walks of life in Wen Wei Po, and formed a support club. The dean called a teacher meeting at home and held a press conference on the grounds of rectifying the style of study. After the director of the Municipal Education Bureau came to the school for mediation, classes resumed in an all-round way. Wen Wei Po, Central Daily News and Ta Kung Pao all reported this student movement, calling it "the prelude and fuse of the May student movement in Shanghai". At the end of the semester, the school refused to pay 14 students such as Shi Yiyang, and they were removed in disguise. Since then, the student movement in the school has entered a low tide.
