With the introduction of Buddhism, there are many Buddhist temples and many Buddhists in Gu Gan, and colleagues also brought related art and architecture. Standing in front of the sand table of Zhangye Museum, you can have a panoramic view of the ancient city of Ganzhou. "One city has mountains and light, half the city has towers and shadows, reeds are contiguous, and ancient temples are everywhere" is the best summary of the ancient Ganzhou style at that time. One of the mountains is Qilian Mountain, and Weixi is now Zhangye Wetland Park. In Zhangye in the Qing Dynasty, there were nearly 80 temples alone, and the stupa was the core of the temple, so as long as you stood in the city, you could see all kinds of stupas standing. "Half-city Tower Shadow" refers to the tower group represented by Jin Mu Wuxing Tower.
Why use gold, wood, water, fire and earth towers? The reason can't be verified, probably related to adapting to nature. After all, in this desolate and vast land, it is rare to have this oasis of Zhangye. It is also on the basis of the unique natural environment that the glorious history of Zhangye and Hexi Corridor appeared. Therefore, a five-element tower was built to protect Zhangye, so as to achieve good weather, peace and prosperity.
In today's Zhangye City, there are only wooden pagodas and earth pagodas left in the Five Elements Pagoda, and the "half-city tower shadow" has long been a thing of the past. The saddest thing is that the three towers of Jinshui Fire are all gone, and no one even knows the specific location, which is embarrassing.
Tatu Buddha Temple is located in Xixia National Temple. Compared with the reclining Buddha in the Big Buddha Temple, the earthen pagoda is not very noticeable. Located on the last side of the temple, the earthen pagoda and the temple were built almost at the same time. The tower is 33.37 meters high, comparable to the wooden tower not far away.
Different from the brick and wood attic style of the wooden tower, the earthen tower belongs to the King Kong throne tower with a bowl covered, which is similar to the white tower of Beijing Beihai Park and the white tower of Slender West Lake in my hometown. But unlike these two pagodas, the earth pagodas of the Great Buddha Temple do not exist independently. There are cloisters around the tower base and temples in front of the tower.
The earthen tower in front of us is not earthy at all, and there are almost no traces of history. It turns out that after a recent round of restoration and reinforcement, the appearance of the whole tower has also taken on a new look. Nevertheless, standing under it, you can still vaguely feel the voices of history, religion, aesthetics and philosophy.
The hotel is not far from the wooden tower You can see the towering wooden tower across the road when you go out. The blue sky is divided into geometric figures by wooden towers. The towers with distinct layers, the eaves with tenon-mortise structure, and the reinforced concrete buildings all around make people sigh that they are so fragile.
Crossing the road is the central square of Zhangye, and it is also the best place to watch the wooden tower at close range. Standing under the tower, the sigh just disappeared. The current wooden towers are not all made of wood, but are typical brick-wood structures. The nine-story wooden tower is 33 meters high, which means nine times. The tenon-mortise structure is a major feature of ancient buildings, and so is the Zhangye wooden tower. The whole tower is supported by bucket arches, girders and columns, criss-crossing, without a nail or rivet, but it is extremely strong and amazing.
"Wooden tower and sparse bell" was once one of the eight scenic spots in Ganzhou. It is said that there is an ancient clock on the upper floor of the wooden tower. Because of the commanding height of the wooden tower, if you ring it, the bell will be faint in the sky and can be heard in all fields. "Zhangye has a wooden tower, eight feet away from the sky." At that time, the wooden tower was six stories higher than the wooden tower in front, which made people feel straight into the sky, but it was eventually destroyed by a strong wind during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. Even now, compared with the surrounding high-rise buildings, the wooden tower is one head higher and particularly eye-catching.
It was evening, and the dark clouds of the day finally dispersed at this moment. The setting sun shines on this weather-beaten wooden tower and puts on a golden coat for it. Countless swallows kept circling over the wooden tower. For them, this wooden tower is their home.
As night falls, more and more people come to the square to enjoy the cool and exercise. Few people will look at the wooden tower again. For them, this may have become a common sight, but in the eyes of my tourists, wooden towers and earth towers represent Zhangye's glorious historical past.
