Introduction of Yi People's Left Foot Dance
Yi people's left foot dance is called "Gugai" in Yi language, and it was called left foot dance in ancient times. In Daoguang's reign, Dingyuan County Records said: "If the left foot falls, the left foot should be built first, so it is also". Left-footed dance is a representative traditional dance which is formed by the Yi people in their long-term social life, with the purpose of entertainment, communication and fitness, and the content of singing, dancing and music activities. It includes the Yi people's worship of heaven, earth, sun, moon, fire, tiger, primitiveness and nature and many cultural expressions. Left foot dance was born in the primitive society of indigenous Yi people more than 2000 years ago. After a long process of human social development, a relatively fixed left-foot dance singing method has been formed. Yi people's left-foot dance culture, which takes the form of left-foot dance, has been deeply loved by the Yi people in Mouding for thousands of years. On June 7th, 2008, with the approval of the State Council, Yi left-footed dance was included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
