Peking University Qiu Gymnasium officially opened on September 6th, 2005. It is located in the southeast of Peking University, adjacent to Zhongguancun Street. The planned land area is about 17 100 square meters, with a total construction area of 26,900 square meters, which can accommodate 8,000 spectators. Upon completion, it will be used as a table tennis venue for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, providing a competitive stage for Olympic athletes from all over the world, showing China's "national ball" to the whole world and serving the Olympic Games of the Chinese nation. The architectural design of the gymnasium is called "China Roof", which means the roof of the nation, the roof of Peking University, the roof of the national ball and the roof of the building. It is the combination of Peking University style and sportsmanship, and also the embodiment of the spirit of the 2008 People's Olympics. After the Olympic Games, the gymnasium can be rebuilt to meet the needs of hosting various international and domestic large-scale sports events and other large-scale activities. At the same time, it will become a sports teaching and activity base for more than 50,000 teachers and students in the whole school and people in surrounding communities, and provide powerful facilities for physical education in Peking University and even the sports and cultural movement in the capital.
Standing on the flat ground, looking up at Peking University Qiu Gymnasium, inheriting the traditional modeling of the century-old Yanyuan building, "China Backbone" is ready to fly. The facade is a concrete slab standing in a frame shape, with elegant design; Looking down, you will find another world on the roof: a transparent sphere protruding from the center with two rotating roofs, and dynamic table tennis is ready to come out.
