What's the difference between Wuxi dialect in downtown Wuxi and Wuxi dialect in suburbs? What's the difference between Suzhou Wuxi dialect and Zhangjiagang dialect?
First of all, the dialects in the outer suburbs of Wuxi are different from those in the urban areas: Suzhou dialect belongs to the east and Changzhou dialect belongs to Luoshe town in the west. The dialect in Wuxi city belongs to exotic flowers and should be included in Suzhou, but Suzhou people have always refused to admit that Wuxi dialect should be included in Zhejiang. Zhangjiagang dialect does not belong to a unique category. The west belongs to Jiangyin dialect (Changzhou dialect), the east belongs to Subei dialect, and the south belongs to Changshu dialect. Culturally, Zhangjiagang belongs to a mixture of Changshu and Jiangyin, mainly Jiangyin, and has nothing to do with Wuxi.

Wuxi dialect is a dialect of Wu dialect, which spreads in Wuxi city and its jurisdiction and belongs to Taihu dialect in Wu dialect. Wuxi dialect can basically communicate with Suzhou dialect, Changzhou dialect, Jiaxing dialect, Shanghai dialect, Huzhou dialect, Hangzhou dialect, Shaoxing dialect and Ningbo dialect. According to the linguistic features, Wu dialect can be divided into seven dialect areas: Taihu, Taizhou, Oujiang, Shangshan, Jinqu, Chuzhou and Xuanzhou, among which Taihu can be divided into six dialect areas: Su Hu, Piling, Tunxi, Shao Lin, Hangzhou and Yongjiang. Wuxi is located in the transitional dialect zone between Wuyu-Taihu-Piling and Wuyu-Taihu-Su Hu, so the western towns near Wujin in Changzhou have obviously different pronunciations from the eastern towns near Suzhou and Changshu. Wuxi dialect can still distinguish sharp group sounds, most people in suburban towns can distinguish flat tongues, and the tongues below minors in urban areas have degenerated, but the sharp group sounds are still intact.
