[Edit this paragraph] Introduction to the plot

As a system engineer of FedEx, Chuck pays attention to accuracy and efficiency in his private life and work. He is impatient, so he pays attention to speed, and he has an absolute desire to control, so his daily life and work and rest are under his control at any time and anywhere. Although my career is successful, my feelings are another matter.

Because he is a super workaholic, he seldom has time to spend with his girlfriend Kelly, so their relationship is in crisis. On a business trip, Chuck's small plane crashed and he was trapped on an uninhabited island with poor resources. When he lost the convenience of modern life and the communication between people, the only purpose of life was to survive, but his outlook on life gradually changed. When he found that the pressure of life suddenly disappeared, he began to reflect on the purpose of life, and finally had a new experience and understanding of work, feelings and even life itself.

[Edit this paragraph] Behind the scenes tidbits

Creation background

Although the movie 194 1 was a mediocre box office that year, the great director Spielberg was very appreciative of the screenwriter Robert ZeNegus. In the subsequent film Back to the Future, Spielberg became a hero behind the scenes, pushing Robert to the front desk, who lived up to expectations and created the myth of "Back to the Future Trilogy" which is still talked about by science fiction fans.

In 1994' s film Forrest Gump, Roche's special effects were brought to the extreme, from a feather dancing with the wind to the "historical lens" of Forrest Gump's "meeting" with the president, which made Forrest Gump's American dream story full of legend. And another big-name black comedy "Leap over the Scene" is also responsible for special effects, Meryl? Streep, Bruce? Willis and other stars "changed their faces" and "cut their bellies", which was very lively. 1997 After completing a meaningful sci-fi work Contact with the Future, Robert took over DreamWorks' Desert Island Life (and Behind the Lies).

"Golden Idea" to Create "Iron Triangle"

As early as six years ago, Hanks and William Broris, the screenwriter of Apollo 13, had the idea of telling the story of a man who suffered mental and psychological hardships on a desert island due to an accident. Encouraged by this "golden idea", Tom Hanks, Robert Zemeckis and William Broris formed the "iron triangle" of this film.

Steven Allan Spielberg, the boss of DreamWorks, has always been a staunch supporter of Robert, a proud pupil. After sending the cast of two superstars, Harrison Ford and michelle pfeiffer, in the last film "At stake", this time he asked Robert to look after the Ruins of a Desert Island led by two Oscar superstars (Tom Hanks and helen hunt), which seems to help Robert gain something in next year's Oscar.

The film emperor suffered a loss.

Tom Hanks, the winner of the film, is naturally broad-minded and chubby in the past two years, but there is a gap between this and a character who has lived alone on a desert island for four years, so Robert deliberately took the movie story backwards-first, the scene after Chuck was rescued. After that, Robert gave Tom a long vacation to the gym and went to catch the "dangerous" scene by himself. After "Danger" stopped broadcasting, Hanks also lost more than 40 kilograms, and the crew resumed work and was officially completed in June this year.

Hanks first conducted survival training on a remote Mexican beach, learning to fish with a harpoon and bake food with local materials. After finishing the preliminary filming on an island in Fiji, Hanks devoted himself to the action of losing weight. For chubby Hanks, losing weight is a headache: he can only live on light sushi every day. So at first, Hanks, who had a double chin and was as strong as a cow, finally became an air-dried "coconut". To make matters worse, Hanks was infected with staphylococci while filming. When the crew got together for the second time, Hanks had become "Tarzan". No wonder he said afterwards, "If I had known it was so difficult, I wouldn't have given millions more."

Ugly Russians

Because of Chuck's special occupation, there are many exotic scenes in the film. One of the scenes in which Chuck reprimanded his subordinates for procrastination in the Russian branch was filmed in Russia. Unexpectedly, this caught the attention of the Russian State Duma. A member of the Duma protested that Hollywood movies always vilify the image of Russians. This time, they even called Russians lazy and said they would boycott the film. In an interview with Moscow Times, DreamWorks immediately clarified that this episode was actually in progress.

Hard shooting process

The filming process of this film is the same as the difficult survival experience in the wild. The actors and crew are experiencing severe challenges, and the filming of the whole film is regarded as one of the most serious shooting plans of the year. The film was filmed for 16 months, and stopped filming for 1 year, but the reason for stopping filming was not to rock the boat, but to enable Tom Hanks to lose 55 pounds and grow hair. During the intermission, director robert zemeckis led the production team of "The Rest of a Desert Island" to shoot "Danger" starring Harrison Ford and michelle pfeiffer.

In fact, as early as the preparatory stage of this film, RobertZemeckis and Hanks have repeatedly thought about this issue. If they want to truly describe the passage of time and Chuck's pain in the film, they must stop filming. During this period, Hanks not only completed the transformation in appearance, but also changed subtly in emotion. "When we returned to the team," RobertZemeckis recalled, "we saw the spark of life in Tom's eyes, and he found the feeling of Chuck."

With the help of graphic designer rick hunter, photography director don burgess, executive producers Joan bradshaw, Steve Starkey and Jack Lapke and other old partners, RobertZemeckis started filming the rest of the desert island on 1 month, 1999. Unlike most films, this film was shot in chronological order.

The first stop of the crew is Moscow, a city full of drama. Here, we want to introduce Chuck's work and life. The photographer shows Chuck's life rhythm with moving lens. During the filming of Red Square, the crew even closed the whole square.

After filming in Moscow for a week, the crew returned to the studio in Los Angeles to shoot. In February, the whole class went to Fiji, and the hard work had just begun. As early as1June, 998, the founder began to look for a suitable desert island, and finally found the uninhabited Mono-Ricky Island in the northwest of Fiji Islands. Monu-riki is a volcanic island with an area of only 99 acres. You can travel all over the island in two and a half hours' walk. Unique topographical features, pristine beaches and coconut groves are the charm of the island.

Permission to shoot on the island has gone through a complicated and long process, which requires not only patience, but also research on local customs and habits, thus winning the favor of the island owners. There is also an environmental management code in the filming contract drafted with Fijians. During the whole filming process on the island, an environmentalist was responsible for the whole supervision.

After completing the first stage of filming on the island, in April 2000, the film crew returned to Monou-Ricky Island for a week, and then turned to Namotou and Tavarua Island, because the ports of these two islands can accommodate the small fleet of the film crew, which is the best place to film Chuck fleeing from a desert island in dangerous waves and rocks. The crew finished shooting in Fiji 65438+ 0.5 days in advance, and then returned to Los Angeles to shoot special effects scenes on the set.

The welcoming ceremony of Chuck's return to civilized society was filmed in the FedEx Super Center in Memphis. 1200 FedEx employees became extras, and even Fred Smith, the founder of FedEx, appeared in the picture. William Blay Jr, the screenwriter of this film, started writing the script with Smith's permission, and FedEx gave unprecedented support during the filming.

The film is clearly divided into three parts. Most of the "first scene" before the plane accident was shot with a hand-held camera, and the dynamic lens reflected the hero's fast-paced world. To paraphrase an old saying, it is "a race against time". The "second act" on a desert island lasts for over an hour, which is the essence of the whole movie-there is no music, no dialogue and no voice-over. The camera stays in a fixed position most of the time, and even the characters don't move and track when they leave the camera, as if time has frozen. In the "third act" after leaving the desert island, the camera began to rise and fall, push and pull and other romantic techniques, like ups and downs of music. The real supporting role in the movie is a volleyball named Wilson. Wilson is a brand of sporting goods. Volleyball appeared in a package that drifted to the island. The real reason why Hanks chose this brand is that his beloved wife's surname is Wilson. The film reveals the endurance of life, especially when isolated, how to maintain mental health, overcome countless natural barriers, and overcome inner helplessness and desire to give up. The film is thought-provoking: what is eternal about family, work, relatives and life?

Wonderful tidbits

The sound of the whole film about 1.5 hours is re-added in post-production.

Most of the night scenes on the desert island were taken during the day, and the night sky and dark background were added in the post-production.

If Chuck's name is abbreviated as "C", then these names together are "C. Darla", which is pronounced "No Land".

Contrary to popular belief, FedEx didn't pay the producer a penny.

A volleyball in the film was later auctioned and finally sold for 18400 USD.

A (movie) fiasco

Although the story of the movie takes place in 1995, Chuck's Cherokee Jeep is the model of 1999.
