Giant's Tools (Book Guide-Part III)
This book contains three parts: health, wealth and wisdom. Of course, the themes of these three parts will have a high degree of overlap, but they are all complementary. You may think it is as indispensable as a tripod to balance your life. Any one of them needs three people to share success and happiness ... For example, "wealth" has many meanings in this book, which itself represents more money. If fully extended, it can also represent friendship and other relationships, and even more other meaning.

My three books, working four hours a week, exercising four hours and cooking four hours, were originally intended to be a trilogy. The central theme of this trilogy is as Benjamin Franklin said: "Early to bed and early to rise can make a person healthy, rich and wise."

People often ask me, "If you were asked to work four hours a week to rewrite this book, what would you add to it?" ? How will you update this book? "The same is true of the other two books. In fact, the book "Giant's Tools" already contains most of the contents to be updated and supplemented by the above three books.

Extended reference

Before writing this book, I asked Mei Sen Curry, the author of Everyday Etiquette. His book is a brief introduction to the rituals of 16 1 creative wizards like Franz Kafka and Pablo Picasso (that is, what kind of rituals those awesome people usually have, that is, the so-called sense of ritual, in short, what to do first, then what to do ... just like what athletes must do before the competition. I asked him what was the best part of the book, and he replied, "I try my best to let my readers experience it." I think this is one of the important reasons why I do the right thing. " Usually this book is not only the details of their routines and habits, but also how they talk about what they are interested in. "

This is a breakthrough observation, and it does explain why it is just a quotation, but it doesn't really work in the end (just like bowling, although the action is done, it doesn't have any effect in the end).

For example, like an interesting place in the book: "What is the other side of fear? Nothing. " Jamie Foxx. This sentence may be unforgettable, and you may guess its meaning. But I will still bet that you will forget this sentence in a week. However, if I give this sentence more meaning, including explaining why Jamie Foxx used this maxim to teach children to learn to be confident. This context and creative language about a sentence can teach us how to think like a giant, not just copy quotations. This is the key meta-skill that we have been pursuing. In order to achieve this goal, you will see many extended quotations and some stories about quotations.

I occasionally draw a thick line under the quotation. This is my special emphasis, not the interviewee's own.

How to read these quotations-small places

"……" indicates the omitted part in the dialogue.

"[]" means adding non-interview information, but you need to find out the content of the discussion, or relevant information, or suggestions recommended according to your actual situation.

How to read these quotations-big place

One of my interviewees in Weibo is also one of the smartest people I know. He was very surprised when I recorded his original report to him. He said, "I usually think I am a very smart person, but I seem to be the same in the past, present and future, and I have never changed. So I look like a complete fool. "

The relayed record is not easy to read, because I have read it myself, so I know that feeling.

However, when the discussion is very intense, we seldom pay attention to grammar, but start with some wrong forms and use the wrong sentence structure. At first, everyone will use a sentence with "and" or "so", which looks ridiculous. I like to use "I like" instead of "I say", like millions of others. Sometimes simple and complex numbers are confused. These grammatical mistakes will not affect communication and discussion, and even seem difficult and natural, but once the text is formed, it will be a bit troublesome, and these places should be considered.

To this end, I edited and proofread these quotations in some cases, just to look clear and clear, and also to respect the interviewees and readers. On the basis of keeping the quotation concise and easy to read, I try my best to ensure the core idea and focus of the quotation itself. Sometimes I can keep the kinetic energy of my body and express my feelings smoothly. But at other times, I am always eliminating my nervousness, including my stuttering.

If something sounds silly or unacceptable, then you think it's my fault. Everyone in this book is amazing, so I try my best to show them to everyone.

I have written down the suggestions of the guests or their philosophy of life in brackets. For example, if anonymous tells a story about testing a higher price, I might add "(please turn to page 170 to see mark anderson's answer)", because his answer to the question "If you have a billboard anywhere, what do you want to put on it" is "price increase", and he will explain the reasons comprehensively and deeply.

Humorous

I have added enough jokes to this book. First of all, if we stay serious all the time, we will feel tired when we really need to finish things seriously. Secondly, if this book is full of serious expressions without blinking an eye, if you focus on efficiency and speed and have no time to focus on defects, then you will only remember a few parts. I agree with Tony Robbins that you can't remember information without emotion.

Please learn about the "Lesdorf effect" (people tend to remember special information) and "the first cause effect and recency effect" (the first cause effect is simply the "first impression", and recency effect means that people's memory of recent events is stronger than that of long ago) and more scientific research. This book also deliberately uses these scientific research to help you remember to the maximum extent. This book will lead us to explore. ...

Spiritual animal

Yes, it is a "spiritual animal". There is no room for pictures in this book, but I want to use illustrations to enliven the atmosphere and make the book look more vivid. I didn't seem to have a clue at first, but after three rounds of drinking, I suddenly remembered a guest on page 194 in the book, O 'Haining, who likes to ask potential employees, "What is your mental animal?" Yes, this is the "spirit animal"! "So, in this book, you will see that animals with any thumb nails will appear to be accommodating and obedient to me. What's the best part? Many people will seriously consider this problem. Extended notes, inner emotional changes, explained in the chart below. Then the question follows: "Will mythical creatures be accepted?" "Can you use plants instead? "Well, in order to be published in time, I can't contact everyone, so these pictures are interspersed in this book like Snoopy's snacks. In this practical book, we should treat those "spiritual animals" like rainbows. You will find it very interesting!

The non-introduction content includes the author's own part about timothy ferriss.

In all chapters, there will be a lot of non-introductory content from guests and sincere you. These are usually used to describe in detail the key principles and tools mentioned by many people.

Web links, websites and social media

I have omitted most of the URL links, such as some outdated URL links, and there is nothing but disappointment. For almost any URL link mentioned, you can easily find it on Google or Amazon.

All the complete clips of Weibo can be found in fourhourworkweek.com/podcast. by searching the names of the guests in the book, and you will get more audio content, complete transcripts and friendly links. The sudden appearance of these resources is just like suddenly giving you hot bread on a cold morning (like giving you charcoal in the snow).

In almost every guest's profile, I will tell you what social media you can communicate with these guests, such as TW = Twitter, FB = Facebook, IG = Instagram, SC = Snapchat, and Li = LinkedIn.

Many guests in this book have recommended hermann hesse's Song of a Wanderer. In particular, Nabal Ravikent (page 546) added some other stories about Song of the Wanderer in my long walks to coffee shops. Siddhartha, the hero, looks like a begging monk. He came to this city and fell in love with a famous social butterfly, kamala. He tried to woo her, but she asked Siddhartha, "What do you have?" In fact, a famous businessman asked him a similar question: "What can you give me that you already know?" In both cases, he gave the same answer, so I am here to supplement the story that happened after Siddhartha. Siddhartha finally got everything he wanted.

The story goes like this:

Businessman: "... if you have nothing, how can you give it?"

Siddhartha: "Everyone gives what he has. Soldiers have strong bodies, merchants' goods, teachers' teaching, farmers' food and fishermen's fish. "

Businessman: "Good, then what do you have?" Is it something you know? "

Siddhartha: "I can think, I can wait, I can fast."

Businessman: "That's all?"

Siddhartha: "I think that's all."

Businessman: "What's the use of them? Such as fasting, what is it? "

Siddhartha: "Sir, this is very valuable. If a person has nothing to eat, fasting is a wise choice he can make. Take myself for example, if I don't learn to fast, I have to find food now, or help you, or go somewhere else, because hunger will always drive me. But I will fast, and I can wait calmly. I won't be restless, I won't get into trouble, I can forget hunger for a long time and laugh at it. "

I often think of Siddhartha's answer:

"I can think" → I have good decision-making principles and good questions to ask myself or others.

"I can wait" → I can make a long-term plan, then do it for a long time and allocate my resources reasonably.

I can fast → I must be able to resist difficulties and misfortunes. Hone yourself into a person with strong adaptability and high anti-strike ability.

This book will help you develop the above three abilities.

I wrote the book Giant's Tools, because this is all my life I want. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoy writing it.
