The Daughter of India is a 63-minute documentary, which was produced by British producer Leslee Udwin for two years. The documentary reproduces what happened on the bus that night, and also records the protests that swept through India 30 days after the gang rape on the black bus, as well as the call for legal reform on gender equality and sexual violence punishment. Powerful but painful, The Daughter of India makes people sad, angry and sympathetic to those who are ignorant.
The Daughter of India will be broadcast on BBC Channel 4 on March 8, 20 15. By then, audiences in seven countries including India, Britain, Norway, Switzerland and Canada will be able to see this documentary. On March 9th, freida pinto and Meryl Streep will attend the screening ceremony of "Indian Daughter" and appeal to the world for gender equality and opposition to sexual violence against women. The appeal begins with Maharashtra, where Mumbai is located. At that time, 20 million students watched the film and participated in the seminar. Udwin said: "This is an Arab Spring that calls for gender equality. Driven me to leave my husband and two children for two years to make this documentary about rape. In the face of fierce government repression, including tear gas, batons and water cannons, many ordinary Indian men and women still choose to take to the streets to demonstrate. They protested for my rights and the rights of all women. Their behavior made me see hope. I don't remember any other country doing this. "
Every country has its own appalling bloody events. In India, a country with a population of/kloc-0.2 billion, a rape case occurs every 20 minutes. In England and Wales, 85,000 women are raped every year. In Denmark, 1/5 women have been sexually assaulted. Sexual assault, rape, ecstasy attack, murder, domestic violence, abortion, trafficking in women and female genital mutilation have become symbols of male domination in some countries.
In this documentary, an interviewed man said, "We have the best culture, but in our culture, women have no place." What really shocked Leslie Udwin was that the defense lawyer in this case was Mandy Sharma. AP Singh, the second defense lawyer in this case, said that if his sister or daughter had premarital sex, he would burn her with gasoline in front of the whole family.
Udwin, 57, who was born in Israel, said: "I want to start with a small focus and focus on' why do men rape'." However, she found that this is not just a simple disrespect for women. The problem is not a small number of people, but the whole Indian society. The terrible details of this rape case made her think that the perpetrators were "monsters" or "mental patients", but the reality was even more terrible because these rapists were ordinary people.
In order to film Daughter of India, Udwin spent 30 hours interviewing rapists, including Goraf.
34-year-old Gao Lafu was sentenced to 10 year for a girl of rape 5. Udwin filmed him for three hours and recorded the details of his crime, including how to "take off her shorts but keep her clothes, put your hand over her mouth to stop her screaming, but make sure her nose can breathe". Goraf described the little girl's frightened eyes in detail and casually said, "She doesn't even know what she inserted." He also smiled and indicated that the raped little girl was only knee high.
When Udwin asked him, "How can you do such a terrible thing and ruin a child's life at will?" Goraf gave the answer: "She is a beggar. Her life is worthless. "
The core interviewer of Daughter of India was Mukesh Singh, who was driving the bus at that time. The interview was conducted in Tahar Prison in Delhi. After the verdict was announced, Mukesh Singh's brother Ram was hanged in his cell. The two brothers originally lived in the slums of Delhi. In addition, the defendants involved in the case include Simone Pavan Gupta, a fruit vendor, Vinay Sharma, a fitness instructor, and Akshay Thakur, an unemployed person. The 17-year-old boy who participated in the gang rape has been sleeping on the street since 1 1 year-old. It is worth mentioning that they all drank alcohol before committing serious crimes. Mukesh Singh's mother is being interviewed by Leslie Udwin.
Mukesh Singh said: "It takes two hands to make a sound. A decent girl won't hang out at 9 pm. Girls should be responsible for rape. " He even said that when a girl was raped, she should not resist. She should be raped quietly. So when they are finished, they will throw her out of the car and hit the boy.
Speaking of the process of rape, Mukesh Singh claimed that he had been driving and did not participate in gang rape. He said: "This process took about 15-20 minutes. That girl has been shouting "help, help". The teenager put his hand on the girl, and then something was pulled out, it was the girl's intestines ... so we dragged her to the front of the car and threw it out. "
In the interview, Udwin described Jyoti's injury to Mukesh Singh. After listening to Jyoti's bite marks and serious internal injuries caused by heavy beatings and gang rape, Mukesh Singh had no regrets.

A gynecologist who takes care of Jyoti said that Jyoti always repeats the same question, and that is "why".
Initially, in order to protect Jyoti's privacy, she was given a new name "Nirbhaya", which means fearless in Hindi. But 13 days later, Jyoti died. Her parents got 2 million rupees from the government and set up the Nirbhaya Trust Fund to help women who are also victims of violence.
After Jyoti's death, the Indian government set up a three-member committee composed of former Chief Justice Wilma and human rights lawyers to quell the protests. In 29 days, they received 80,000 feedbacks and submitted a landmark 630-page report. In the report, they called on the law to pay attention to sexual violence. However, the new bill failed to implement many of the recommendations in the report. Since then, with more and more women willing to come forward, the number of reported rape cases has greatly increased.
Teenagers involved in gang rape were sentenced to three years in prison. The other two convicted people appealed against the verdict, but this process may last for many years. The judge said that these criminals should be hanged because this is an "extremely rare case". However, just two years after Jyoti was killed, a woman was raped and beaten by four men and even her eyes were gouged out.
Jyoti's father talked about his daughter: "Before she died, she lit a torch ... no matter how dark the world is, this light will eventually dispel the darkness." Don't you want to say something after reading it
