What does a six-star hotel mean?
Definition of a six-star hotel

The Star Standard for Foreign Hotels in People's Republic of China (PRC) was first promulgated and implemented in 1988, and it has been 16 years. With the development of China's hotel industry, it has been revised to varying degrees six times. It was not until last year that the revised standard edition of "Classification and Evaluation of Star Rating of Tourist Hotels" proposed for the first time to add and include a new grade-Platinum Five out of Five Stars on the basis of the original five stars. What kind of hotel has platinum five-star qualification? Can there be reference data other than "standard" for star classification? How is the star rating of international hotels divided? I want to discuss with my colleagues from several aspects.

Internationally, hotels are also divided into five grades: luxury hotels are the highest grade, first-class hotels are the second grade, mid-range hotels are the third grade, budget hotels are the fourth grade, and budget hotels are the fifth grade. Can we simply equate luxury hotels with domestic five-star standards, senior hotels with domestic four-star standards, medium-priced hotels with domestic three-star standards, budget hotels with domestic two-star standards and budget hotels with domestic one-star standards? This is worth discussing.

Many internationally renowned management groups are high-end hotel brands managed abroad and rated as five-star hotels in China. But we can't make simple comparisons. In different countries and regions, hotels of the same grade differ greatly in hardware and software. At present, there are the same international brand hotels in China, which belong to different stars in different cities.

At present, there is a fact that makes the definition of different star hotels have some vague space, but this fact is not quantified in the star classification and evaluation of hotels. This fact is the performance of hotel management, which is reflected in the simplest data of hotel grade and grade-the average daily price of hotels. Take Shanghai as an example. There are two strange facts about this simple data over the years. First, among all five-star hotels, the highest price and the lowest price are almost multiples; In all four-star hotels, the highest and lowest room rates are almost 2.5 times; Among all three-star hotels, the difference between the highest and lowest prices is almost 2.5 times; In all two-star hotels, the difference between the highest and lowest prices is almost four times; Among all the one-star hotels, the highest and lowest room rates are almost three times.

The second fact is that the highest price of a star is lower than the lowest price of a star by more than 30%. This phenomenon can also be explained by the fact that about 30% of hotels with one star below the average daily price have sold their average daily price to the level of one star above, or conversely, about 30% of hotels with one star above the average daily price have sold their average daily price to the level of one star below. Of course, an indicator alone cannot fully explain the overall management level of a hotel, but according to the development process of the industry in the past 20 years, a hotel has no highest price, only the price that cannot be sold. Based on this theory, the fuzzy space between different stars is not small. Inferred from the theory that consumers think value for money, when consumers are willing to stay in a hotel that is one star lower than a hotel that is one star higher, there must be something that consumers think value for money.

The above two strange facts have long existed. Because there is such a strange price difference between hotels in a big international city, it should be of great positive significance to add a platinum five-star hotel to a top five-star hotel. One of the significance is that the managers of high-star hotels can see the gap between themselves and other hotels with the same star; The second meaning is that platinum five-star hotels can lead a city's industry standards and qualifications. From this positive point of view, the author also suggests that other star-rated hotels can also be included in a platinum level, which will play a positive role in promoting the industry's comprehensive integration with the international community.
